A Cure for the Summertime Blues
6/30/15 -
(Nothing says summertime like gin.)
Gin is the ultimate summer spirit. Whether sipped neat, on the rocks, or mixed into your favorite cocktail, it never fails to refresh the soul (ever heard of a Corpse Reviver #2*?) and palate. Now more than ever, there is a vast array of different styles of gin available to us and each of them is incredibly exciting and unique. From gins that fit staunchly in the London Dry style – very dry and juniper-laden – to those that are considered to be in the New American style: fuller-bodied, more floral, and citrusy. There are also gins that don’t fall into either camp and stand completely on their own! We are proud to have the following gins on our shelves, from producers new and old, and can’t wait to share them with you over the warmer months to come! Tim Gagnon
*If you haven’t heard of a Corpse Reviver #2, it is a classic “hangover cure” cocktail that is mentioned in literature as early as 1861 in an issue of Punch (a British humor magazine that went into a long, slow decline after the 1940s and ultimately closed in 1992). Here is a recipe:
- 3/4 ounce gin
- 3/4 ounce lemon juice
- 3/4 ounce Cointreau (at the shop we prefer Combier Liqueur)
- 3/4 ounce Lillet
- 1 dash absinthe
Shake ingredients together in a mixer with ice. Strain into chilled glass.
