We love to drink the Saint-Joseph soon after release but best to wait until 2026-7, then enjoy until 2041+. Our friend John Livingstone-Learmonth had this to say in \u003cu\u003edrinkrhone: “\u003c\/u\u003e\u003ci\u003edark red; the nose has an aroma of lardon, cooked bacon chunks, bright raspberry, dried herbs. The palate is immediately peppery, direct, crisp toned, develops extra fruit intensity as it goes, ends on herbal crunch tannins. The fruit gets off and goes, then things change, and tannins come in and alter its nature, which is very typical of \u003cspan data-ogsb=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogac=\"\" class=\"markxfdf5gg32\" data-markjs=\"true\"\u003e2021\u003c\/span\u003e. The tannins have some tar darkness. Its cool red fruit is a primo card for now, and there are perfume, rose-violet tones towards the finish. It is scheduled to be bottled in May. Finely powdered chalk on the nose here, with crushed white peach and green apple beneath. The palate is broad, textural and welcoming, with a supple and multilayered substance, featuring dessert apple, peach and chalk, cut with bright (and very welcome) acidity. I see good freshness and drive here, and a fine bitter and bright finish. The wine ages 16 months,  60% in burgundy barrels (5% new) and 40% in cuve inox or resin, 250 cases were made. The 2017 shows a deep red\/black color with elegant aromas of blackberry and blueberry, cherry liqueur, licorice, bitter chocolate, black olive, musk and menthol. The palate shows bright berry liqueurs with deeper earthy black fruits , black pepper, cocoa, licorice, rose petal and mineral flavors, supple and ripe but with firm tannins and a grainy texture. A long saline finish of black fruits, a bit of tar and firm acidity. This is a real Syrah of granite terroir that can be enjoyed young, especially with grilled foods, but best to wait five to ten years and drink until 2035 and beyond. The soils are primarily \"poudingue,\" a conglomeration of calcareous stones and gravel deposited during the formation of the Pyrenees, with sandy clay topsoil. The Aurissets prefer a very full-bodied style of Jurançon - all their wines are aged in used barriques which gives amazing complexity  and phenomenal richness to the  100% Petit Manseng Cuvée Marie-Louise. This is a superb Jurançon Moelleux, harvested in late December, about 90 grams\/liter of residual sugar. Wonderfully complex aromas of apricot, candied citrus, flowers and exotic fruit with a hint of vanillin. Lemon confit, apricot, brown spice and chalky acids on the palate. A young wine that is gorgeous now but perhaps best in five to ten years. With more acidity than Sauternes, this is a great match for foie gras, lemon tarts and strong cheeses, and for apple and mince pies on Thanksgiving! Absolutely superb!
