More tart cherry and fresh tomato on the palate are followed by some peppery spice and lingering acidity. The tannins are rustic and firm but not out of place, softening a bit after a few hours open. Frascole is a small, family run, organically farmed estate in Rufina, the smallest Chianti sub-zone, with high elevations giving it a nearly continental climate. This bottling is a majority of Sangiovese, from ~50-year-old vines, with just a few percentages of Canaiolo and Colorino blended in. The juice is fermented in steel and concrete tanks, and then 50% gets aged in oak for one year before being blended back into the tanks. A classic Chianti with ripe black cherry and tomato leaf on the nose with a palate of firm tannins and bright acidity. "Old-timers" will remember the Frascole was always case-stacked at the front of the old shop, but there was no importer since the 2018 vintage (the last vintage we were selling). Finally, someone started importing the Frascole wines and we're delighted to have the delicious 2022 vintage on the shelf once again!

Tzingana's younger vine selections has finally made it onto the shelves at Chambers Street Wines! 40% Cabernet 40% Merlot 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Colorino. Here they tend to about 12 hectares of Sangiovese, Colorino, and Canaiolo (and a bit of Cabernet and Trebbiano). His Chianti Classico is from two parcels, one warmer with more clay and the other cooler with more limestone. The grapes are hand harvested, fermented spontaneously with native yeast, no sulfur (small amount at bottling), and no temperature control. 10 day maceration in the traditional submerged cap method (cappello sommerso), then a year and a half aging in concrete reveals a Chianti made in a very old school, traditional way.

2022 was a hot and dry year for Chianti, but rainfall in late Summer saved the vintage. Originally bottled in 2003, the wine was denied DOCG status for lack of color and the was subsequently failed for having too much color, a sure sign to Silvio that it was never going to be approved for DOCG status no matter what he did! The wine is essentially a tank wine made from younger vines that are picked earlier in the season than the other red cuvées, fermented on native yeasts in cement tank and aged only in concrete. Certainly not a simple wine, it is definitely a fresher style than Silvio's Chianti Classico. Bright red cherry fruit comes out on the nose with green herbal tones of sagebrush. The palate is light-to-medium with plenty of acidity and soft tannins. A serious wine that is nevertheless easy going.
