A variety with, potentially, as much complexity and variation as Pinot (for one thing, it too comes in three colors!). Nonetheless, Grenache, Pinot's Mediterranean country cousin, is more often blended away or used for bulk wine than contemplated on its own.
I've been guilty of this myself, I'll be honest. But, as so often happens when you study and taste and read a lot about a given wine thing, I'm increasingly fascinated by the Grenaches that force me to change my mind: wines of beautiful perfume, supple fruit, and sun-kissed richness that can make an awful lot of different people happy while staying honest.
If you're unconvinced, or starting a mental dialogue with yourself about alcohol and balance, you sound like me! Like me, you should probably take this class.
