Pif, the loyal vineyard dog of Clos Roche Blanche was always with us in the vines, hunting for critters in the grass, trotting ahead as we strolled along hoping to absorb wisdom from Catherine and Didier. Pif is no longer with us and this 2014 is the last vintage for the CRB blend of Cot and Cab Franc - but what a last vintage it is, perhaps the best Pif ever made! The wine shows fabulous high-toned aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice, chocolate, black pepper and musk. There is firm acidity on the palate which is light but very dense with berry liqueur, earth and anise. Beautifully balanced at 12% alcohol this lovely wine is delicious now but will be best after a few years in the cellar. Long-term aging seems possible. A wonderful good-bye from Pif and the Clos Roche Blanche... (6 bottle maximum purchase, please)
