2011 brings us another great cuvèe Prestige from Stephane Guion in Bourgueil, whose domaine has been certified organic since the 1960s. From vines averaging 50 to 70 years old. A softer, more approachable wine than the superb 2010 showing aromas of strawberry compote with floral, herbal and musky notes, with hints of roast coffee and chocolate. Full and relatively soft on the palate with ripe strawberry and cherry fruits with earth and stone flavors and strong acidity. This is just delicious, but needs decanting or a day open to really sing. After 3 days re-corked in the fridge, the wine is deep and lovely with black fruits, earth and spice and terrific length. Drink now (with aeration) or hold 15 to 20 years. 1985, 1989 and 1990 tasted recently at the domaine were fantastic — given the low price, this is one of the world's great values to cellar. Thank-you, Stephane!
