2011 Vignes du Maynes Brut Rosé is riper than the past two vintages of this wine. It's a bit deeper in color with more overt cherry and strawberry Pinot fruit. The earthy and iron-y notes on the nose remain; it's an extremely mineral wine with cranberry, cherry cordial, hibiscus, rosehip, tea leaves, and fruit seeds. Mostly Pinot with a touch of Gamay, there's a tiny bit of funk upon first opening, but nothing excessive. The fruits are pure and the wine takes on more irony depth the longer it's open. Terrific length. Easy and delicious, generous and satisfying, but by no means insubstantial. (No added sulfur) -Sophie Barrett
Farmed by the talented and energetic Julien Guillot, the vineyards of this superb estate belonged to the Abbey of Cluny and date back to at least 900 AD, and it is the oldest practicing organic vineyard in France. Acquired by Julien's grandfather in 1954 and immediately tended with organic methods, the vines have never been treated with modern pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. The living soils here produce vibrant wines which are often bottled with zero added sulfites.
