Bruno Giacosa: You don't drink the label

These bottles come from excellent, temperature-controlled storage, but some of the labels are a mess. Damp, dirt, humidity, and (as in the case of at least some of these bottles) accidental spills are the enemies of wine labels, but I can attest from a great many examples over the years that all of these things can go wrong with the label without having the least effect on the contents. In another sense, with Giacosa it’s difficult to not be swayed or otherwise impressed by the label: he is one of the great winemakers of our lifetime. But in the most literal meaning, you don’t drink the label, and we guarantee that these wines are in perfect condition. Jamie Wolff
