Venus La Universal 2015 Montsant Dido La Solucio Rosa

Priorat natives Sara Perez and Rene Barbier Jr. balance freshness with great complexity in all of their wines for Venus La Universal. Upon first sip of "La Solucio" rosé, we were hooked! A blend of red and white grapes from the Montsant -- Garnacha, Carignan, and Syrah, plus Macabeu, Garnacha Blanca, and Garnacha Gris -- are pressed all together, co-fermented, and aged for approximately 10 months in very old barrels before bottling. Pale, twinkling, rosy coppery peach in the glass, with orange peel, cherry, and watermelon; textured with tender tannins and lots of length, supporting sultry apricot, wild berries, bitter citrus, creamy florals, and salty mineral and earth tone. It will only get better with some age, so don't be afraid to stock up. Ariana Rolich

Terroir Al Límit 2015 Priorat Vinum Verum Roc d'Aubaga Rose

As with most serious rosés, Roc d'Aubaga is really coming into its own with some time to evolve in the bottle. Dominik Huber of Terroir al Limit continues to defy expectations with bold, unique, yet relatively light wines from the sun-baked Priorat, famous for dense and powerful reds. Roc d'Aubaga is a whole cluster co-fermentation of  Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris, and Grenache Blanc, with aromas of red currant, wild rose, and hibiscus, flowing onto the subtle yet exuberant palate of wild cherry and creamy berries, with watermelon pith, cherry pits, rose hips, tea leaf, chiseled minerality, fresh acid, and lots of length. Technically a clarete (blend of red and white grapes), this is a beautiful all-season rose, shining with richer duck dishes as well as grilled shrimp and summer vegetables. Ariana Rolich

Koehler-Ruprecht 2016 Pfalz Pinot Noir Kabinett Trocken Rosé

Direct press Pinot Noir rosé from the Pfalz! The 2016 vintage is just a touch lighter in body than 2015 with even more mineral cut; flavors of wild strawberry, white cherry, green melon, raspberry seed, and blood orange are vibrant and punched up by the mouth-watering acidity. Cari Bernard

Monte Bernardi 2015 Colli della Toscana Centrale Rosato

"Cherry water and rocks." This is how Monte Bernardi winemaker Michael Schmeltzer first described his 2015 rosé to us, and we couldn't agree more. This blend of Sangiovese (90%) with Canaiolo, Malvasia and Trebbiano comes from the village of Panzano in the heart of Chianti Classico. Certified organic and farmed biodynamically, this is serious and classic Italian rosé, abundant in structure, texture, depth and longevity on the palate. "Cherry water and rocks" is indeed an apt description, and those qualities are interwoven with raspberry, rhubarb pie, an herbal medley, and a faint, pleasant bitterness reminiscent of candied blood orange peel that feels refreshing on the palate. Delicious now, but should have the stuffing to age a few years. Oskar Kostecki

I Custodi 2014 Etna Rosato Alnus

(PRE ARRIVAL 8/4/17) I Custodi 2014 Alnus Rosato is a fascinating wine from a relatively cool and challenging vintage.  The cuvée is made from a selection of young-vines Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio on the north face of Mount Etna. Fairly deep ruby red in the glass, the nose is distinctly savory; it smells more overtly of sea spray, wet stones, and anise than it does of fruit.  The palate is quite light with a definite saline character, bright acidity, tart cranberries and strawberries, with a very mineral finish.  A touch austere on its own, this rosé is a great match for a wide range of foods: try it with Salad Niçoise, poached fish, speck, briny cheese, or Greek salad. Madonna delle Grazie 2016 IGT Basilicata Rosato Sagaris - Aglianico

Of the many expressions of Aglianico produced by our friends at Madonna Delle Grazie, the Sagaris Rosato might be the most fun.  The grapes are gently crushed and macerated briefly (usually about 8-10 hours) to avoid extracting too much color; fermentation occurs slowly in neutral vessels, and the wine is bottled after light filtration.  Bright salmon pink in the glass, the wine shows ripe red cherries and strawberries on the nose, backed by minty herbal tones and a touch of moist earth. It is juicy and quite full bodied with fresh acidity and light but noticeable tannin. Try it with grilled lamb sirloin, roasted game bird, charcuterie, roasted mushrooms, or burgers. Andy Paynter

Terres Dorees (Jean-Paul Brun) 2016 Beaujolais Rosé d'Folie

Jean-Paul Brun releases small quantities of this Beaujolais rosé each year, and it's always a treat. Strawberries, bright red fruit, and a tangy side that contributes to its joyful drinkability. The finish is mineral and crisp, with a very subtle tartness that keeps the impression of a flavorful but overall dry rosé. Eben Lillie

Tue-Boeuf 2016 Vin de France Rosé (Gamay/Grolleau)

The 2016 offering of the Vin Rosé from our friends the Puzelat brothers is totally dry, with red raspberry and tart strawberry, and a touch of blood orange. There is a subtle structure on the mid-palate - which makes this a very food friendly wine - and a super mineral finish. A great vintage for the Tue-Boeuf Rosé!  Eben Lillie

Navarre 2016 Vin de Table de France Vin d'Oeillades Rosé

Thierry Navarre, based in Saint-Chinian in the Languedoc, is one of the few vignerons growing Oeillades, an obscure and ancient variety native to Mediterranean France. Similar to Cinsault, here it produces a fine, juicy, approachable rosé perfect for these warm summer evenings. Deep salmon in color, the nose is reserved, with soft notes of crushed berries and ripe cantaloupe. On the palate this wine is round and refreshing, with good minerality and delicately etched acidity. Red berry fruit and cherry dance elegantly around a tensile mineral core. Excellent with thinly sliced prosciutto, popcorn, grilled seafood, or assorted mezze. Drew Farquhar

Clos du Joncuas 2016 Gigondas Rosé

This beautifully poised rosé from our friends at Clos du Joncuas is a textbook example of a powerful wine wearing a velvet glove. Its weight and 14% alcohol are balanced out by lively acidity and a persistent minerality that folds itself seamlessly into a long and textured finish. The nose and the attack on the palate is all ripe fruit: tangerine, kumpquat, passion fruit, orange zest, and a hint of honeydew (but the part right up against the rind.) Then the bright acidity kicks in and the wine dances across the palate with vibrant energy.  As it resolves, a note of wet granite lingers. Pair it with salade Nicoise or hot dogs, or shout "So What" like P!nk and drink this delicious rosé by itself all summer long, any day, anytime. Oskar Kostecki

Inconnu 2016 Contra Costa County Lalalu Rose

Winemaker Laura Bissell makes fresh and delicious wines from California (and goes above and beyond to keep them very affordable). Lalalu rosé is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Mourvedre from the sandy soils of Contra Costa County, pale and spry, with yellow cherry, soft spice, salty acid, and hints of tropical fruits. Made in the mold of light, easy Provencal rosés "to drink now" (in Laura's words). Ariana Rolich

Rootdown 2016 Amador County Mourvedre Rose

Rootdown is an exciting new label from Mike Lucia, who made wine at Copain Winery until the company was sold to Kendall Jackson last year. For Rootdown, he is making small quantities of organically-farmed Grenache Blanc, Trousseau, Sangiovese, Mourvedre, and more. The 2016 rosés are stunning, packed with personality, but light as can be. Mourvedre rosé from young vines in Amador County combines electric red berry fruit, hints of savory herbs, pink peppercorn, electric acidity, and low alcohol. Personally, I cannot stop reaching for this wine. Ariana Rolich

Ponce 2016 Manchuela Las Cañadas Rose

This is the first rosé made by Juan Antonio Ponce, who is the master of Bobal in his high-altitude home region of Manchuela. At a recent tasting with Juan Antonio, he explained that this wine was made at the request of his brother, a blend of red Bobal with 10% white Albilla, pressed all together and aged for 6-7 months in neutral barrel. Light and textured, with creamy tropical notes, blood orange, and gritty minerality, Las Cañadas is a beautiful new value in the rosé department. Ariana Rolich

MicroBio Wines (Ismael Gozalo) 2016 Castilla y León Nieva Correcaminos Rose

Sometimes when people live and breathe their vineyards and wines, the results are palpable. This is the case with Ismael Gozalo, a proud native of Rueda, gifted grower, and crafter of some of the region's finest and most serious Verdejo wines, first for Bodegas Ossian and now under the MicroBio label, which is a deliberate reference to both biological processes crucial to the character of the wines and the tiny scale of production. For his rosé, Tempranillo is pressed directly into stainless steel for fermentation and blended later with a bit of Verdejo. The result is vivid and pure, with fresh bright berry fruit, cherry blossom, crunchy rocks, balanced bright acidity and no added sulphur at any stage. We are excited to be able offer this rosé at a much lower price this year. Only one case remains for the year! Ariana Rolich

Last call for Ameztoi's Rosé Txakolina! Rubentis combines old-vine Hondarribi Zuri and Hondarribi Beltza for a tart, tingly, and thirst-quenching rosé that is an exhilarating aperitif or pairing for fresh fish and salads. Frontón de Oro 2016 Gran Canaria Rosado

Soft-spoken brothers Pedro and Antonio Ramírez of Frontón de Oro are the team behind some of the most distinctive and elegant red wines coming out of the Canary Islands. With vines at over 1200 meters altitude, it is unsurprising that their rosado of Listan Negro, Listan Prieto, and Vijariego Negro (co-planted) is similarly aromatic, herbal, complex, and totally fabulous. Blood orange, spicy florals, and salty earth on the nose, with flavors of rosy strawberry, creamy cherry, a hint of spicy cayenne, and bitter volcanic ash. Serve alongside seared tuna or sautéed squid with garlic and olives, stuffed red peppers, grilled sausage, and grilled vegetables  with  sea salt and olive oil will sing alongside this quintessential volcanic island wine. Schloss Gobelsburg 2016 Cistercien Rosé

Pale, peachy-pink in the glass, the nose hints at a stony minerality confirmed on the palate. This blend of Zweigelt, St. Laurent, and Pinot Noir is crisp with scintillating acidity and flavors of fresh green and red strawberries, white stone, and lemon juice. A touch more linear than the 2015 vintage, brisk and bright! Cari Bernard

Jurtschitsch 2016 Niederösterreich Rosé vom Zweigelt

Zweigelt grown on loess over primary rock is hand-harvested, destemmed, and macerated for a few hours before being gently pressed. The must spontaneously ferments in stainless steel tanks and later ages in the same tanks sur lie. Ripe, red berry fruits (cherry, strawberry, raspberry) burst forth on the nose and palate, the wine is dry but fruity, and just juicy enough to be a fun pairing for roast chicken, charcuterie, or just about anything off a grill. Knauss 2016 Württemberg Rosé

A cuvée of Andi's red grapes (Spätburgunder, Zweigelt, Trollinger, Lemberger, and Merlot) grown on the full spectrum of soil types found within the estate's 14 hectares. Salmon-tinted blush in the glass, with sharp notes of pollen, rose petals, gardenia on another sniff, watermelon and green apple sour candy, and umeboshi umami. Flavors of juicy watermelon, red currant, and tart strawberry lemonade pop with a brisk dry and saline finish. Would be an excellent companion to soft-scrambled eggs dotted with goat cheese, a green salad with citrus segments, briny oysters on the half shell with mignonette. Cari Bernard

Cirelli 2016 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo

The 2016 vintage of Cirelli rosato is another great vintage of one of our favorite Italian rosatos. Made from a two hectare parcel of organically farmed Montepulciano planted on calcareous clay soil, the grapes are crushed, briefly macerated, fermented in stainless steel, and rested for three months before release.  The result is a dry rosato with rich red color and that is bursting with aromas of Fuji apples and strawberries, ripe Cara Cara oranges, pink floral tones, and a pleasant hint of chlorophyll.  The palate is full and smooth, with crisp acidity and very little tannin, showing more pithy citrus notes, tart apples, and juicy red fruit.  Try it with grilled chicken, citrus salad, soft cheeses, or pork sausage.  Andy Paynter

Gilbert, Philippe 2016 Menetou-Salon Rosé

We are so glad that Philippe Gilbert, who was formerly a play writer and producer, decided to change careers to take over his family estate! Organically certified and biodynamically farmed, this rosé is fresh and full of energy. With a pretty salmon color, the wine shows aromas of strawberries, watermelon and spices. The palate is crisp and vibrant with ripe red berries and yellow cherries notes, superb stony minerality and bright acidity with a long finish. Drink this wine, quite chilled, alone or with a lobster salad, ceviche or any grilled fare you may fancy. Caroline Coursant

Pradeaux 2016 Bandol Rosé

This rosé is made mostly from Mourvèdre and a bit of Cinsault. The rosé goes through a short maceration on the skins, in order to extract a light color, then the juice is fermented at low temperatures to retain freshness. The 2016 shows a dusty, orange tint in the glass. The nose sings with tangy notes of grapefruit, gooseberries and lime flower. The palate is round with notes of salty pineapple, white flower and orange citrus. A powerfully aromatic rosé with good aging potential. Amanda Bowman

Charvin 2016 Cotes-du-Rhone Rose

A 1.5 ha parcel of about 50% Grenache, 50% Cinsault, sometimes with some Bourboulenc and Mourvèdre that averages just 35hL/ha annually.  Organically farmed and entirely harvested by hand with sorting done in the vineyard. The 2016 rosé shows a pale pink color and lovely aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, rose and peach skin. The palate is silky and mineral with subtle raspberry and cherry fruit with stone and citrus flavors, quite long and elegant and finishing with refreshing acidity. This should open up nicely over the next few months and will be a great companion to seafood, chicken and grilled meats this summer. Lovely wine!
