Roulot, Guy 2011 Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères Monopole

This is a rare wine. This is a great wine. This is an historic wine. Why historic? Because this is the first vintage of Jean Marc Roulot's new monopole — Clos des Boucheres. Beautiful white fruit and flowers on the nose, lots of complexity, minerality and salinity, power and big, rich flavors and a very long finish. Very refined and detailed, lots of dynamic tension. A wine of exquisite balance that will age brilliantly. A tour de force! JBT

Bachelet, Denis 2008 Bourgogne Rouge

My favorite Bourgogne rouge the last few vintages; the 2008 shows lovely sour cherry/citrus fruit, woodsy components, and a large dose of stony minerals. The flavors are mouth coating and long with just a hint of bitterness in the finish that adds complexity. Once again Denis has another winner... cb

Ledru, Marie-Noelle 2010 Champagne Ambonnay Blanc de Noirs Cuvee du Goulte Grand Cr

100% Pinot Noir from Marie-Noelle's Grand Cru vineyards in Ambonnay. Goulté was the old Champenois word for the first-run juice from the press. This is Ledru's top wine and will, in certain vintages, be sourced from a single parcel and in others from a blend. Regardless of the vintage, this cuvée typically needs a little time in the cellar to show its full potential. The 2010 is no exception, but it does offer a master class on the aromas of a range of apple varietals along with notes of orange blossom, cedar and cinnamon. The palate extends out with intertwined veins of minerality, smokiness and red fruits. The finish is admirably long and delicious. (Disgorged 9/2014).

Coudert (Clos de la Roilette) 2010 Fleurie Cuvée Tardive 1.5 L

Cuvée Tardive, which literally translates to ‘late,’ is so-named as an admonition to avoid consuming the bottle in the flush of youth.  Initial reticence, without the jubilant fruit of the previous vintage, along with tightly wound mineral and tannin clearly indicates the need for cellaring.  Three days of oxygen exposure brought out an inkling of high-toned berry fruit and florality, a fleeting preview of the complex aromatics that will unfold over time.  JR/JW
