It's always a thrill receiving a new shipment from Lise and Bertrand Jousset in Montlouis!

Lise and Bertrand make some of the finest petillant naturels of France - we're happy to feature all four of their superb and very natural sparking wines! Long-time favorites at Chambers Street, the Exilé Brut Rosé and Rosé a Lies are Gamay/Grolleau blends that show remakably pure and lovely red fruits, beautiful elegance on the palate and food-friendly mineral flavors in the finish. Both are perfect for a party and are serious enough to enjoy with an elegant meal! The Jousset's have a magic touch with Chenin Blanc, which shows up beautifully in the 2022 Vin de France "Bubulle" made from grapes grown on clay/silex/limestone soils in Montlouis. Elegance and complexity are the key words for this wine, with a finely chiseled palate with hints of dried pear, apple and anise over a core of saline minerals with terrific length. Beautiful wine! And for something more casual, the delightful new 2022 Exilé Blanc Petillant, is a delicious blend of Chenin from Anjou and Colombard from the south - there's a density and marked minerality that the Chenin Blanc provides, with mid-palate weight and roundness of the Colombard. It's crisp at first, then becomes rounder, with notes of white and yellow fruits and citrus. A unique and delicious aperitif or party wine!

Chenin Blanc Three Ways! First, the refreshing and delicious 2022 Vilain p'tit ch'nin, a lively and versatile Chenin with beautiful fruit and vibrant acidity, perfect as an aperitif or with any casual meals. Second, the very elegant 2019 Montlouis-Sur-Loire 1er Rendez-Vous Version Longue - this gorgeous Chenin from clay/silex soils ages for 10 months in barrel and an additional 2 years in vat producing a wine of oustanding complexity and depth, suitable for an elegant fish or white meat preparation. Third, and rarely seen in the US, is the amazing 2018 Montlouis-sur-Loire Cuvée "Sur le Fil." From old vines on sandy clay/silex soils giving yields of about 15 hl/ha with 60 grams/liter RS. This beautiful moelleux brings a smile to your palate that continues in the endless finish. Enjoy now and over the next 15 years.

Along with Romorantin and Pineau d'Aunis, Menu Pineau is one of our favorite grapes of the Loire, and the Joussets created a beautiful, intriguing and very food-friendly version in 2022...not to be missed! Lise and Bertrand continue to surce grapes in the south of France for their "Exilé" series, and we're happy to offer the 2022 "Résiste," a supple and juicy crowd-pleasing wine, primarily Carignan, with Grenache and Syrah.

Lise and Bertrand, two of the nicest vignerons we have ever met, make beautiful wines of nature from their 11 hectares in and around Montlouis-sur-Loir. Primarily working with Chenin Blanc in Montlouis, they also grow Gamay, Grolleau and Chardonnay on parcels in Touraine. The vines are between 30 and 130 years old, with even some franc de pieds! Their approach is simple: "We want to make wines that express their character and their origins - in other words 'living wines.' For this we need living soils with great microbial activity and living vineyards with a balanced animal and vegetal life in our parcels." The wines are made naturally with minimal or zero added SO2, with organic and biodynamic farming in the vineyards and no spoofilation in the cellar. We love these wines and you will too!

New Arrivals from Domaine Claudie Jobard!

Back in 2010 we began imorting the wines Domaine Gabriel Billard in Pommard, owned by oenologist Laurence Jobard and her sister Mireille. The wines included an outstanding Bourgogne Rouge from old vines in and around Pommard, the Cuvée Milliane Vieille Vignes, which became our most popular Bourgogne Rouge. The old vines were passed on to Claudie Jobard, Laurence's daughter, a few years ago and we're very happy to have this wonderful Pinot Noir back in the store - a few cases of the 2020 and a good supply of the beautiful 2022!

Also just arrived, the outstanding Rully Rouge "La Chaume" from the 2020 vintage - a bit denser and tighter than the lovely 2021 currently in stock, this quite serious Burgundy will need a decant or 5 years in the cellar. And we'd like to remind you of the sensational quality and value of the Jobard 2021 Rully Blanc "En Villerange" - it's a complex and versatile white Burgundy that will be very popular with your holiday meals...

Claudie Jobard

A bit of history... "Claudie, oenologist and graduate of the O.I.V (International Organization of Vine and Wine), began her first vinifications in Rully and continued the activity of the family vine nurseries in Demigny. Laurence Jobard, Claudie's mother, a renowned oenologist in Beaune, passed on to Claudie the best plots of her family estate located in Pommard. This very old estate has seen 7 generations of winegrowers succeed one another.  We now cultivate 9.5 hectares among the most beautiful vines of the Côte Chalonnaise and the Côte de Beaune in the Rully, Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Pommard appellations." Claudie has always worked well in the vines and has converted the estate to organic farming. We're very happy to have these lovely wines back in the store!

Sancerre for the Holidays!

Good Sancerre is hard to find these days, especially after the low yields in 2021, and prices have risen. of course, but we have two outstanding wines to offer for your end-of-year festivities.

Jean-Paul Labaille continues the great work of his father-in-law Claude Thomas, creating one of the finest Sancerres from vines in "les Monts Damnees," an incredibly steep-south facing hillside in Chavignol on Kimmeridgian limestone and red clay. The 2022 is a great example of this wine, with complex, very elegant aromas of lemon oil, dried pear,  apple and quince, lime-flower, boxwood, and stone. Really lovely!

Pierre Morin is producing vibrant, racy and mineral wines at his small organic estate in Bué. His Vieilles Vignes cuvée comes from vines in Bué mostly planted on caillottes, the very fractured, stony-pebbly limestone terroir often of Oxfordian origin, but with some vines on Kimmeridgian soils as well. "These are truly captivating wines. Pierre Morin would appear to be running one of the most compelling domaines in all Sancerre. I suggest you find his wines while you still can." - The Wine Doctor

Most wines are in stock, other inventory arrives Tuesday 12/19. 10% case/mixed case discount applies to still wines only.
