We're proud to offer the last inventory of Jacqueline André's very beautiful 2020 Chateauneuf-du Pape!  The wines of Domaine Pierre Andre wines are among the very finest of the appellation - they possess the focus and soul of the truly great - when superb farming, old vines, terroir and winemaking come together to create works of art that transcend point scores with their purity, elegance and depth.

(Please see the special price below for CSW newspetter subscribers!)

The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is an extraordinary wine and offers a fascinating contrast to the dense and powerful 2019. Tasted with Jacqueline in January, the wine was quite remarkable, showing a relatively light red/garnet color with lovely aromas of tart cherry, red currant, rose and violet. The plate was supple, not heavy, with complex red fruits, earth and minerals with silky fresh tannins, finishing with terrific length of red currant and berries. "Un gourmandise" said Jacqueline and we couldn't agree more - but obviously built to age as well.

The 2020 was recently named one of the world's best Grenache by the Revue du Vin de France*: "Showing harmonious, slightly evolved aromas, the 2020 is a veritable concentration of delicacy thanks to tannins perfectly ripe and fine. A wine all in nuance, very pure in its definition but with a strong internal energy that will reveal itself gradually over time. After a day of aeration, the wine had not weakened, but on the contrary, had gained in length."

(Jacqueline André makes one of the most distinctive CDP Blancs from traditional southern Rhône varieties - Clairette (80 - 100 year-old vines) and Bourboulenc (40 - 50 year-old vines). There is no CDP Blanc 2022 due to hail, we hope to taste a sample of her 2023 this winter...)

(The Prices! We apologize for this confusion, but here are the actual CSW net prices that will appear only on your paid receipt - trust us, it works!: 2020 CDP Rouge $53.99; 2020 CDP Rouge Mag $107.99. 10% case discount applies.

(* Other CDPs named in the RVF article "Nos Très Grands Grenache du Monde," included Rayas, Clos du Mont Olivet "Papet," Saint Prefert "Colombis," La Janasse "Chaupin," Les Cailloux "Centenaire...")

100+ year-old vine at Pierre André

For those new to the estate: Pierre André was the third generation at the estate and was a tireless advocate for organic farming before anyone else in Châteauneuf, finally gaining organic certification in 1980. His daughter Jacqueline began to take over in 1984 and soon converted to Biodynamic farming, certified by Demeter in 1992. The estate’s vines average 65-70 years old with some parcels 100-150 years old, mostly in the lieu-dits of Les Gardioles, Les Bédines, L`Etang, Les Saumades, Chapouin, Pignan and Guigasse, in sandy soils for the white (less than one hectare) and a combination mostly of sandy clay and galets stones for the red. The blend for the red is approximately 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre and 2% Cinsault with Vaccarèse, Counoise, Muscardin and Picpoul noir. There is a 30-day whole bunch fermentation with pumping overs; aging is in old large oak barrels for 6-8 months, then un-lined concrete vat for 12-18 months. Domaine Pierre André has always been one of my favorite Châteauneufs, and after tasting with Jacqueline over the past 7 or 8 years I am convinced that there are no more soulful and authentic wines than these in the appellation.  David Lillie

The wines have landed in NY and should be available
