Private Collection: Fontanafredda & Marchesi di Barolo

Share

Some historic wines from two foundational Barolo producers, both credited with establishing the modern form of Barolo in the 1800's*. These wines offer very good value, and some bottles we have tasted have been sublime. The wines age well - a few years ago a friend shared his bottle of Fontanafredda 1908 - it was very much alive, and fascinating - a royal wine. Jamie Wolff

*The rich history of both Fontanafredda and the Marchesi di Barolo are beautifully related in "Barolo and Barbaresco" by Kerin O'Keefe, a must-read for anyone interested in Nebbiolo.
