Alzinger 2019 Wachau Hollerin Riesling Smaragd

As per the winery, "The Hollerin begins where the Kellerberg ends in the plain. Our vineyard is in the top third, where the clay is even shallower and the rock is even more distinctive. The wines from the Hollerin often open earlier and, in addition to mineral notes, repeatedly reveal intense stone fruit aromas. Accessible and generally a bit creamier than the other Rieslings. Often underlined by floral aromas and citrus notes. Thick and compact texture; fruity finish."

Alzinger 2019 Wachau Liebenberg Riesling Smaragd

As per the winery, "Located on the Danube bend between Dürnstein and Weissenkirchen, cooler air masses coming from the northwest are clearly noticeable. Amphibolites and mica slate replace gneiss as the dominant parent rock. The style changes with the terroir. In the upper part of the Liebenberg, where our vineyards are located, you have tight and compact structures. Classic Riesling  profile, with mostly stone fruit and citrus aromas; cool, animated with a long finish."

Grans-Fassian 2004 Mosel Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Auslese GK 375ml

This split packs quite a punch, beginning with aromas of petrol, salt brine, lilacs, and nutmeg. The palate is rich and textured with candied lemons and lemon custard with an admirably long finish. An elegant coda to any meal! - David Salinas

Haart, Reinhold 2007 Mosel Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Spätlese EL

Classic nose of tropical fruits. You can tell this wine is stuffed just by smelling it. Really open for business when I tasted this in August 2008. Opulent with great acidity and really goes all over the palate. Really profound. Haart hit a homerun in 2007. LF

Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 2009 Margaux

The 2009 BAMA shows bright deep red/black color with lovely high-toned red fruit liqueur - strawberry, black currant and cassis, with violet and earth. The palate is dense and ripe with bright acidity - not at all heavy, but with intense black and red fruits backed by flavors of mineral and earth. On day two the bright deep fruits have become more focused and linger on the palate in the long and very mineral finish. This is quite enjoyable as a young wine, especially after a day open, unencumbered by over-extraction and new oak - but beware, this style is for those who like some earth in their Bordeaux! Best to cellar for a very long time...

Capannelle 2000 Toscana Rosso Special Edition 1.5 L

A real gem for collectors, the Rosso di Capannelle 2000 was produced only in magnum format and with a limited edition of 11,000 bottles, to celebrate the arrival of the new millennium. The wine is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon and the grapes used are the fruit of the best harvests between 1990 and 1995. The aging in barrique lasted until 1998 and then bottled at the beginning of 1999.

Fornacina 2010 Brunello di Montalcino

This is the second vintage of Fornacina’s classic Brunello that we’ve sold at the store, and we had to fight to get what we could. The wine press has decided that 2010 may be one of the most successful vintages of the last decade, so there has been a worldwide scramble to secure wines. After tasting a lineup of wines from the vintage, I feel that they are quite good, but will be better with a bit of cellar age. The traditional, long-lived style at Fornacina makes for a wine with a healthy amount of tannin and invigorating acid, perhaps requiring a Florentine steak today, but with plenty of stuffing to age for quite a long time. Fornacina’s wines have Montalcino’s hallmark flavors: sour cherry, dusty earth, and mature balsamic. John Rankin

Drago (Luciano de Giacomi) 1973 Bricco del Drago (Dolcetto/Nebbiolo)

The Bricco del Drago is a steep hillside, planted with what are now mostly very old vines of Dolcetto, with some Nebbiolo mixed in. The wine is one of Piedmont's first blends (1968), and is proudly maintained by the current owners, the Colla family (ex Prunotto). The 1973 is still a vivid and lively wine, on the earthy side, but with some bright fruit reflecting its sustaining acidity and touch of Nebbiolo tannin - a treat for the price. Jamie Wolff
