Bacchus 2020 California Chardonnay
A really lovely bottling of California sunshine, this Chardonnay from Bacchus is fruit-forward, buttery and easy drinking. Enjoy with roast chicken or creamy pasta dishes. Bacchus is a project from winemaker and wine director David Gordon who set out to create high quality wines at a great value that showcased the best of California vineyards. -MD
Bedrock NV North Coast Shebang Red Wine
55% Zinfandel blended with Carignane, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Alicante Bouschet, Grenache, Syrah, Barbera and a touch of whites for aromatics from old vine plantings (up to 100 years old) around Sonoma County, fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and raised in a nice bit of French oak for a bold, bright-fruited, silky, and satisfying wine that is unbeatable at this price.
Arona 2021 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Classically zippy and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough New Zealand! Arona is based only half a mile away from the coast which means their vineyards feel more wind whipping through, keeping the temperature down than anywhere else in the region. This means they can be farmed more sustainably with less disease pressure, and it also makes their wines super fresh and vibrant. Drink this after a long day at work to refresh your palate and spirit, and/or with anything that needs a spritz of citrus like grilled swordfish or a summery salad. Michelle DeWyngaert
Bodegas Altos de Montanchez 2020 Extremadura 'Vegas Altas' Eva de los Santos
This is an impressive value from the Extremadura region in Spain. Eva de los Santos is the local grape, which reminds us very much of a good Muscadet. Similarly subtle on the nose, the palate is fresh and balanced, with stone fruit, stones, and ample acidity. Certainly a bit lower on the acid than most Muscadet, the comparison is still apt, and any fan of a clean, dry white should definitely try a bottle! -EL
Finca Torremilanos 2020 Ribera del Duero Montecastrillo Tinto
This 100% Tempranillo wine from Ribera del Duero is a fantastic value, from Demeter certified Biodynamic vineyards. Coming from vines aged between 10- and 20-years-old, the wine is aged 80% in stainless steel and 20% in oak. This is a classic, fuller-bodied expression of warm climate Tempranillo: dark fruit, earth, a bit of leather and medium tannins are in balance with freshness and some herbal character. A great wine for a party or with steak, lamb and anything grilled this spring and summer.
Viña Zorzal 2021 Navarra Garnacha Rosado
Viña Zorzal offers some seriously delicious wines from old vines for very little money (as fans of their delightful red Graciano can attest). This one honors the traditional wine of the Navarra region - rosado of Garnacha. Fragrant red currant, raspberry, and pink peppercorn aromas lead to crunchy cranberry and strawberry fruit flavors, with zesty pink grapefruit and tropical and herbal undertones on the finish. The label features a popcorn kernel pattern because Xabi Sanz of Zorzal recommends it as an accompaniment to popcorn and a movie. This year's wine is electric: bright pink in the glass and incredibly tasty!
Viña Zorzal 2019 Navarra Graciano
Zorzal takes the Graciano grape to new heights with this inexpensive but outrageously delicious 35-year-old, organically-farmed vines in Spain's Navarra region (Rioja's overlooked neighbor). This is a generous, crowd-pleasing, and thirst-quenching red on the fuller side of medium-bodied. It is pretty and perfumed, with flavors of juicy purple plum, ripe red raspberry, and dark cherry, violet flowers, soft funky earth, spearmint leaf, cinnamon spice, smooth tannins, rich texture, and just enough acidity. Unfined, unfiltered, and fermented with native yeasts.
Pajot, Domaine de 2021 VDP des Côtes de Gascogne Les Quatre Cépages
This is a beloved staple at Chambers Street! Domaine de Pajot is located in Southwest France overlooking the capital of Armagnac, a region more well known for their brandy than table wines. The entire estate is certified organic, grown over rolling hills of mostly sand and fine silt soils, vines interspersed with hazelnut trees. 'Les Quatre Cépages' is a blend of 35% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Colombard, 20% Ugni-Blanc, 10% Gros-Manseng . Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this wine is dry, crisp, and well balanced. Pajot is our go-to pick for your event, pleasing everyone at a moderate price, or for enjoying at home as an aperitif or with fish and chicken dishes.
Chardons 2020 Touraine Sauvignon Blanc
Husband and wife team, Thierry and Sophie Chardon, founded their estate in 1996 in the village of Couffy on the Cher river, near the Clos Roche Blanche. Thierry came from a family of winemakers but, after his father was forced to sell his vineyards, decided to become a firefighter instead. Years later, Touraine and family history drew them back and he and Sophie began a winemaking estate of their own. They converted to organic farming and winemaking practices in 2007. The 2020 shows a typical nose full of lemon and herbaceous aromas. The palate offers notes of juicy grapefruit and herbaceousness coupled with high acidity, stony minerality and a ripe body due to the warm vintage. A wine definitely made for food pairings of white meats and fish, vegetables, salads and goat cheese. GH
La Bernarde 2020 Côtes de Provence Rosé "Hauts du Luc"
We've just retasted the 2020 La Bernarde Rosé (April 12, 2022) and we're happy to say that it's just as delicious as it was last year! It's a very dry and refreshing blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvedre, Rolle (Vermentino) and Syrah. Certified organic and fermented with wild yeasts, the grapes are grown in a high-altitude vineyard on limestone with clay and stones. The Cinsault is very present in the subtle aromas of peach and raspberry with citrus, spice and floral hints. The palate is light, with a silky texture and firm mineral flavors underlying the fresh red fruit, peach and citrus flavors. This is a lovely and versatile wine that will be a delicious aperitif or accompaniment to fish, white meats and lighter grilled foods. At $12.99 this a great bargain - pick-up a few cases for your spring/summer sipping!
Château de Manissy 2019 Côtes du Rhône "Oracle"
The very talented Florian André at Chateau de Manissy makes this delicious Côtes d Rhône from Grenache, Carignan and Counoise in organic/Biodynamic farming on sandy, brown clay/limestone soils. "The wine shows a shiny dark red, purple tints; the bouquet charms thanks to its sunny curve of aroma that mixes dried herbs with blackcurrant fruit, all neatly presented. There’s a little smokiness. The fruit purity stands out on the palate, the blueberry fruit with notes of tar-tannin, licorice accompanying it as it runs with calm continuity. This is bang on the money Côtes red, a pleasure to drink with its keen clarity, the length in shape to allow red meats into the dining equation. The freshness contributed by the Counoise is very helpful." (DrinkRhone) This is a superb everyday red at a crazy price!
Guion 2019 Bourgueil Cuvée Domaine
The World's Best Value in Cabernet Franc is back! - This is another beautiful wine from the shy and affable Stéphane Guion who is quietly making some of the best wines in Bourgueil. His 2019 Cuvèe Domaine is from not-so-young (15 to 40 year-old) vines, mostly on clay/limestone terroir in Benais and is equal to the superb 2018 with perhaps a bit more brightness to the fruit. The wine shows a vibrant black/red color and lush aromas of raspberry and blackberry confit, dark chocolate and violets - very deep and ripe but still bright with earthy hints as well. The palate is medium-bodied and very fresh with firm acidity and chalky, saline mineral flavors framing the very ripe, chalky red and black fruits, which continue in the long sappy finish. Drink now, served cool, with grilled chicken and pork, charcuterie, green vegetables and mild cheeses, or hold 5 to 8 years for a velvety mature experience. This is a beautiful wine and a sensational value! David Lillie
Peybonhomme 2019 Premières Côte de Blaye Cru Bourgeois
Biodynamic farming, native yeasts, wild fermentations, good value –all phrases not typically associated with Bordeaux. Yet, each year the Hubert family provides us with just that in their staple cuvee from the Côte de Blaye. The Cru Bourgeois is a blend of mostly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and a bit of Malbec. Generously aromatic owing to the rich clay soils in which it is grown, the 2019 offers crushed violets, cassis, and rhubarb on the nose. The palate shows the warm vintage with finesse. Cascades of ripe red fruit, black currant, and spice, with supple tannins and an undercurrent of chalky minerality. This is a great addition to the dinner table alongside grilled meat or sipped on its own.
Navarre 2021 Vin de France Vin d'Oeillades Rouge
Oeillades is an ancient Languedoc variety, probably related to Cinsault. Thierry Navarre, who is proud of his vineyards of "forgotton varieties," produces Terret and Ribeyrenc as well as this lovely light-bodied Oeillades. The 2021 has pretty, red-currant, strawberry, black plum, violet and spiced citrus aromas, quite fresh, earthy and appealing. The palate has soft and silky red currant, blackberry and plum fruit, it's light to medium-bodied, but with lovely ripeness and refreshing acidity and good sappy length. Good intensity of fruit but low alcohol (12%), which makes it very food-friendly. Serve quite cool with charcuterie, burgers, grillled chicken and pork and mild cheeses. Highly recommended and a great value!
Bosco dei Cirmioli 2020 Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC
In the glass, the Bosco Pinot Grigio is a pale lemony straw in color. Some rounder aromas of melon and apple are cut by zingy citrus zest and grassy herbs. The palate is bright, with crisp orchard fruit and clean limestone. There is some roundness to the palate, but the structure is driven by the great acidity and zippy core. If you're ready for summer, then you're ready for a few bottles of this!
Cantina del Lupo 2020 Piemonte Grignolino "Grignole"
Very engaging on the nose, like uncovering a bowl of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries while a breeze of light flowers and green grass stirs on a summer afternoon. Really, if the aromatics of this wine don't put a smile on your face, I don't know what will. The color is a translucent rhubarb hue. On the palate, there is vibrant acidity and only a minuscule tannic touch. The fruit on the tongue has more of an edge than it does on the nose, with tangy red cherry and crisp red apple. Edgy but deliciously fresh. David Hatzopoulos
