**Wines from today's newsletter will be available 8/31**

Most of us have had this experience: You're slated to attend or host a gathering. You want to drink wine that you'll enjoy, but you don't want to pop exceptional bottles if the crowd you're seeing isn't going to appreciate them. Fear not this Labor Day, as Yves Duport has a fantastic Chardonnay, full of character and a steal at $20. You might know Yves as the winemaker behind the Céline - a light red/dark rosé (honestly, depending on what you want it to be) that took New York City by storm at the beginning of Summer 2021. Fill up your cooler this coming holiday with Domaine Yves Duport so you and your friends, whether they're expert tasters or novice drinkers, can sip with pride as this crazy season comes to an end.

Despite being so affordable, Yves' 2018 Bugey Blanc ranks among the top Chardonnay that I've tasted from the French Alps. I've had examples at more than double the price that can't compete with its quality. In the glass, the wine is a fresh golden yellow. The nose is clean and vibrant, with mint and oystershell, grass and pear, with just a touch of minerally Alpine smoke. Yellow and green apple, lemony citrus, and zippy herbs team up with the wine's lovely dose of moderate acidity, resulting in a wine of pure flavors and excellent structural swish. A long finish, powered by an invigorating beam of minerality, ends with a simple hint of white pepper.

"Chardonnay was not traditionally grown in Savoie or in Bugey prior to phylloxera," writes Wink Lorch, in Wines of the French Alps. Today, however, it "is the principal grape variety in the Bugey appellation, and must make up at least 70 percent" of any white labeled as Bugey AOP, according to Wine-Searcher.com. That must be why Yves' stunning Aligoté and Pinot Gris, both derived from grapes grown in Bugey are labeled as the most general national designation, Vin de France.

Every Domaine Yves Duport wine that I've tasted has a quality that exceeds the price-tag. Today, we're offering the Céline that you know and the Bugey Blanc that you'll love - and just in time to save your holiday BBQ and to help us all kiss summer goodbye. Merci, Yves, for your refreshing steals! David Hatzopoulos
