I was supposed to leave tonight for Italy - this was to have been the 17th consecutive year I'd be spending a couple of weeks in Barolo and Barbaresco. I don't think there's an equivalent Italian phrase, so: c'est la vie. Tech not being my forte, I do wish I could figure out how to turn off the steady stream of "time to check-in" reminders I'm getting... More importantly I've had a lot of email from winemakers there, and everyone seems to be in good health and spirits; reports are of an early and promising spring. And in the meantime we can enjoy the wines offered here, ready to drink, and every bottle guaranteed, as always. Jamie Wolff
Described by Wasserman as "made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Barbaresco Zone". Why it's not Barbaresco is anyone's guess. Pertinax, Roman Emperor for about 3 months in 190 ad, appears on the label. Pertinace carries on as the name in Barbaresco of a small wine growers coop.
Black cherry and kirsch flavors are underlined by subtle hints of bresaola, dark chocolate, and fresh earth. It's not a powerful vintage, but nevertheless impresses with its lightness, litheness, and elegance (2/28/16). Jonas Mendoza
