Sometimes in the midst of a grand feast (even one consisting of your favorite foods) one craves a reset, or palate cleanser, if you will. Something light and fresh and featuring high acidity helps to wake up the appetite. And in the middle of all these great wines from the Veronelli Cellar we thought it might be nice to feature a selection of Rieslings to revive the soul and act as an intermezzo. Please see below a fine selection German wines from a number of our favorite producers to inspire thirst in the most fatiguied palates. Prost!
Falkenstein, Hofgut 2012 Saar Krettnacher Euchariusberg Ries Auslese
Euchariusberg is one of Falkenstein's finest sites. It's quite steep, mostly blue slate and produces wines of great finesse that likely have the longest potential to age. It's mildly sweeter than the Hofberg this vintage, but holy bananas, this wine is something special. Peaches, melons, hay and tons and tons of slate on the finish. So much acid, so much slate, this is quintessential Saar in a glass. If the name on the bottle were different, we guarantee this wine would sell for exponentially larger amounts of money. It's multi-faceted, it's delightful and it's world-class Auslese. -jfr
Falkenstein, Hofgut 2015 Saar Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Auslese
Euchariusberg is a steep, south-facing vineyard with a long history of acclaim. The topsoil is quite meager, with gray slate and quartzite making up the balance. This bottling is sourced from two different plots on the hill. I don’t say this enough with the Falkenstein wines, but these wines can age, especially the higher Prädikat levels. This is a prime example: fresh and accessible now, yet masterfully balanced and fully capable of being enjoyed in 20+ years. If only I had the patience. Cari Bernard
Weiser-Künstler 2014 Mosel Enkircher Ellergrub Riesling Kabinett
This finely elegant Kabinett (85 Oeschle) adds luster to W-K's reputation for refined and graceful wines. The nose floats spicier aromas of cinnamon, cloves, mace, and fresh ginger that dance around a core lime juice, orange blossoms, and orange marmalade. The palate is remarkably lifted by a high wire act of minerality, lime zest and ginger before an orange blossom finish. This has all that one could hope for in a Kabinett and holds high the tradition of great Mosel Kabinett!

Weiser-Künstler 2015 Ellergurb Riesling Trocken 'Grosse Eule'
The Ellergrub is a top-tier vineyard site with an extremely steep grade and ample amounts of dark blue and gray slate at various states of erosion. The old vines here give grapes that are perfectly suited for wines that exemplify Weiser-Kunstler's pursuit of tension and structure. Cari Bernard
