Despite having fallen out of fashion, Australia has more to offer the discerning drinker than overblown pointy wines and industrial plonk featuring a marsupial on the label. First, there’s terroir, from the cooler maritime climate areas like Grampians to the drier, more continental conditions of the Barossa and Clare Valley. Second, there are truly venerable, dry-farmed vines, many dating from the 19th Century. Third, there’s a serious commercial vine-growing tradition that dates to the 1820s. And finally, there’s value: relative to other benchmarks, older Australian wine (with a few exceptions) remains affordable. Today we’re pleased to offer an assortment of aged Aussies ranging from crystalline dry Rieslings, to strapping Barossa Shiraz, to classic honeyed Rutherglen Stickies. Happy hunting! *Please note wines are in the warehouse and will be available Wednesday, 2/21.*
