Hirsch Vineyards 2013 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir San Andreas Fault
Hirsch "San Andreas Fault" represents the estate's flagship Pinot Noir, truly embodying the remarkable soil complexity near the namesake fault line that represents the geological boundary between the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. Besides the mouthwatering tart cherry, cranberry, and strawberry flavors, the San Andreas highlight the brightness and structure of the 2013 vintage, with its nervy acidity and elegantly tannic structure. -Jonas Mendoza
Arnot-Roberts 2014 Sonoma County Syrah
Arnot-Roberts truly shine with regard to their Syrahs: they combine California's ripe fruit and seductive aromatics with the savory notes and structure of the Northern Rhone. The 2014 Sonoma Coast reminds me of a riper, elegantly structured Saint-Joseph. The wine is almost broodingly purple in the glass, with tantalizing flavors of ripe Bing cherries and black mountain raspberries, further underscored by notes of black peppercorns, hoisin, and celery stalk. The tannins grip the palate, but frame the dark fruit and earth/spice notes perfectly. The Syrah is sourced from six different vineyards in Sonoma Coast (among which include noted Clary Ranch and Griffin's Lair), all harvested using organic and sustainable methods. 100% whole-cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts and 11 months in neutral French oak.
