Nothing gives us greater pleasure than touting the merits of wines made using controlled oxidation. And what better time to do so than the week of the release of Peter Liem’s much-anticipated book: Sherry, Manzanilla and Montilla: A Guide to the Traditional Wines of Andalucia, when all the world is talking about Sherry? For those who have not heard, the third week of October will see a citywide celebration of the wines of Jerez. During this week, there will be more Sherry poured and more Sherry producers in town than ever before in New York. Please click Sherryfest for more information. We hope to do our part to bring the unique and incredibly food-versatile wines of Jerez to you by offering a tapas party and fish fry on October 23rd with winemakers in attendance, as well as an outstanding in-store tasting on October 20th.
Our friend André Tamers of De Maison Selections has one of the best Sherry portfolios around; it’s a portfolio that is representative of a breadth of Sherry styles from the briny, tangy Manzanillas of La Cigarrera to the sweet, aromatic Moscatels of Cesar Florido. This dinner at El Quinto Pino will feature eight Sherries, as well as winemakers from four of André’s sherry bodegas: La Cigarrera, El Maestro Sierra, Gutierrez Colosia, and Cesar Florido. For those unfamiliar, El Quinto Pino is a tapas bar that specializes in regional Spanish cuisine. The dinner commences at 8:30pm on October 23rd and El Quinta Pino will be offering a fish fry style menu, absolutely perfect for the salty, sea influenced Sherries of Sanlucar de Barrameda and Jerez de la Frontera. This will be a wonderful and delicious opportunity both to eat and drink, and to meet producers. It’s going to be a super party; we’ll see you enthusiastic Sherry lovers there. Below you’ll find the featured wines listed and If you have further questions about the menu or the Sherries, we’d love to answer them: office@chambersstwines.com
In addition to the fish fry at El Quinto Pino, on Saturday, 10/20, from 4-7pm, we’ll be pouring Sherry at Chambers Street. We’ll show a couple of Sherries from De Maison Selections, but also wines from Hidlago E Marquez, Valdespino, and La Bota. Salud! -Sophie
